Welcome to the Rackspace Cloud! My name is Christopher E, how may I help you?
John Boker: Hi, i wanted to force ssl usage on a website and in the rackspace cloud docs it says to contact support if im unsure if the IIS Rewrite module is available
John Boker: I'm unsure
John Boker: the site is https://www.bridgeportequipment.com/
John Boker: what i read is from http://cloudsites.rackspacecloud.com/index.php/How_do_I_force_SSL_on_my_ASP/.NET_site%3F
Christopher E: Hi John. Let me get that info for you.
Christopher E: Just making sure, you have tested it and it does not work?
John Boker: i have not tested it yet
John Boker: i wanted to do this with the least amount of downtime
Christopher E: OK. Your site does have that available
John Boker: one more question, with that carry along the query string along with the site & path ?
Christopher E: It would not, John.
John Boker: do you know how to get that information appended?
Christopher E: One second, let me find out.
John Boker: thanks
John Boker: it didnt work:
John Boker: Module IIS Web Core
Notification Unknown
Handler Not yet determined
Error Code 0x8007000d
Config Error The configuration section 'rewrite' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration
Config File \\?\UNC\fsvs01\Target01\341340\347256\www.bridgeportequipment.com\web\content\web.config
Christopher E: Can you try again, real quick John?
John Boker: yeah, one moment
John Boker: i tried again, this time no errors, but it's not redirecting either
Christopher E: Ok. I had rebuilt your application.
John Boker: ok, it's throwing the error again
John Boker: i need to have that not happen as soon as possible, before people notice
John Boker: i removed it from the web.config so the site would come back up
Christopher E: Try restoring the changes you made and rebuilding the application.
John Boker: do you want me to add it to the web.config again to see if the rewrite will work ?
Christopher E: You can try.
Christopher E: You will also want to rebuild the application through your control panel.
John Boker: i've been rebuilding through the control panel. Has anything been done since the last time i tried? i dont want to try again until i think it's going to work
Christopher E: Nothing has been changed on our end.
John Boker: ok, so im guessing the iis rewrite module is not available then
Christopher E: Let me hit up an admin.
John Boker: thanks
Christopher E: Thanks for your patience, John. I am awaiting a response from an admin.
John Boker: ok
Christopher E: Still there, John?
John Boker: yes
Christopher E: We may need to set up a test environment.
John Boker: ok
Christopher E: To isolate this, are you able to modify your web.config so that everything is commented out except for the SSL code?
John Boker: there are connection strings and app settings
John Boker: if i do that the site wont work
Christopher E: One moment.
John Boker: well im going to have to be going, i've spent too much time on this already. could you open up a support ticket for this ?
Christopher E: Will do, John.
John Boker: thanks, have a nice day!
Christopher E: You too!
